Who Pays for a Destination Wedding? (And Other Questions You Really Wanted to Ask)
Planning a destination wedding can feel like juggling flaming coconuts… gorgeous, exciting, and just a little bit dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. Luckily, that's where I come in. During a live “Ask Me Anything” session, I answered some of the juiciest (and most practical) questions about planning a wedding away from home. We covered everything from Catholic ceremonies to live-streaming your big day. And yes, someone even asked if I'm ticklish. (Spoiler alert: I am.)
Below is a quick recap in case you missed it live. If you'd rather watch the full video replay, just click the ‘play' button. Prefer to skim? I've broken it down for you. Let's dive in.
Topics We Covered:
🛫 Who Pays for a Destination Wedding?
Hint: If you're the couple saying “I do,” you're probably footing the bill for the ceremony, reception, and wedding extras. But travel and lodging? That's usually on your guests, unless you're feeling super generous (or super famous).
⛪ Can Catholics Have a Destination Wedding?
Yes, but with caveats. Catholic weddings have rules, and they typically need to be held in a consecrated space. Luckily, some Sandals Resorts (hello, Montego Bay, Ochi, and even St. Vincent!) have certified chapels that fit the bill.
💌 When Should I Send My Invitations?
Sooner rather than later, friend. Save-the-dates should go out as soon as your venue and date are locked in. Follow up with formal invites (and a wedding website!) that keep guests in the loop as plans evolve.
🎥 Can I Livestream My Wedding?
Absolutely! Especially for guests who can't travel. Sandals and Beaches Resorts offer livestream services, but you can also hire a pro videographer, or designate your tech-savvy cousin (with backup).
🧳 Do I Need a Wedding Website or a Facebook Group?
Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! Your guests will have questions. So. Many. Questions. A dedicated website or private Facebook group saves your sanity and helps your guests feel informed and excited.
🤷♀️ Will People Actually Show Up?
Sometimes those “maybes” turn into “heck yes!” faster than you expect. Your wedding may be the perfect excuse for someone's long-overdue vacation. Plan accordingly.
BONUS MOMENT:
Shoutout to Alyssa, who asked the most unexpected question of the day:
“Are you ticklish?”
Answer: Yes. Yes, I am.
