hello Friend! so glad you're here!

Who We Are

[Spoiler alert - we're small but mighty.]

Meet debbie

Destination Wedding Designer, Caribbean specialist

Debbie, Hitched Away

Tends to zig when everyone else zags; almost always ready to talk 'weddings' or all things Caribbean.

Ah, the "meet the owner" section. This is where I'm supposed to tell you I graduated from a top-notch university and have celebrity clients who I've worked with. Alas, that is not the case.

Hi, I'm Debbie. I help couples who want to have a luxury destination wedding in the Caribbean from losing their minds.

I took my passion for weddings, combined it with my love of the Caribbean and infused my obsession with logistics, systems, and the highest level of client experience, and the result is Hitched Away, a boutique destination wedding company.

When I'm not working with clients or traveling, you can find me writing, listening to NPR and geeking out with WordPress.

Want to work together? I'd love to hear from you.

"We're all so very different from one another. Why should your wedding be like all the others you’ve been to?

A destination wedding is a wonderful adventure for everyone involved. Dream differently. Get hitched away!”

Home Airports

BWI whenever possible. DCA is closer (but the parking's better at BWI). IAD for the long flight back home (just don't ask me to drop you off or pick you up from there!)

Recently returned from:

  • Checking out Grenada's chicest accommodation - Villa Kaye in Morne Rouge.
  • Exploring Harbour Island (via golf cart!), the best-kept secret in The Bahamas

Dreaming of:

  • Roaming my way through all of the Caribbean
  • Relocating 'Hitched Away' to an office in the Caribbean

One thing I can't travel without...

My Bluetooth speaker; good music makes just about everything & everyone better!

Why work with us me?

A Caribbean destination wedding is terrific for so many reasons. Not only do you celebrate two people in love, but you also get to do so in an impressive, picture-perfect location.

But...the Caribbean is vast! And your travel options and destinations are endless. The challenge is narrowing down your choices from a long, long list of possibilities. Where should you go? Which type of hotel or resort is the right one for you and your guests? (Because, what you see isn't necessarily what you'll get!).

Instead of playing the guessing game, talk to someone who can give you the answers you're looking for. Not only do I know weddings, I know the region like the back of my hand.

You'll have the need-to-know details and information so that you can make the right decision. Working with me is a completely different (and enjoyable) experience. Please get in touch, today.

FAQ

How long have you been planning destination weddings?

I've been a part of the wedding planning industry for several years. The first wedding that I coordinated, professionally was a Jewish wedding (that I admittedly knew very little about at the time) in Long Island, NY. But I created a step-by-step masterplan- that I still use to this day - and the wedding went off without a hitch!

A few years later I was hired to plan my first destination wedding for a US couple getting married in St. Croix and decided this was a niche I would love forever.

What makes you different from other wedding planners?

First and foremost, I know weddings. It's been in my system for a very long time, now. As a destination wedding consultant, I also know the ins and outs of planning a wedding away from home. A wedding is (hopefully) a once-in-a-lifetime event. Do-overs are not an option, so it's important that the professional team involved in helping a couple to plan their big day, pay attention to the tiniest detail. I know the importance of details and apply this to each and every wedding that I'm a part of.

Second, I specialize in the Caribbean...only. As a Caribbean Destination Specialist, when it comes to travel I focus almost all of my energy and attention on the beautiful islands known as the West Indies. Getting to know the resorts, hotels, villas and suppliers; and understanding the culture and the people in the region is a top priority. This type of laser-focused attention means you receive the most relevant and up-to-date information - including the myriad marriage license and residency requirements for each island - that you need to plan and enjoy the most idyllic island fete possible.

Who do you work best with?

If you dream of a destination wedding in the Caribbean, but you don't have the time to figure everything out, you will benefit best from working with me.

If you know what you want but have no idea how to transform that vision into an unforgettable moment or if you are uneasy with the idea of planning such a special occasion from so far away, that's okay (and totally understandable) - you are a perfect candidate.

If the resort (at my destination) has a wedding coordinator, why would we need to work with you?

It's not my goal to compete or replace your hotel or resort's on-site wedding coordinator. Instead, the very personalized destination wedding service that I provide means you have a professional wedding consultant in the US to help you plan and coordinate all the details of your wedding before you arrive at your destination.

Do you charge a planning fee?

Some of my travel services won't cost you a dime; it depends on exactly what type of help you need.

My planning fee - if one applies to your situation - depends on whether your event is something I can pull together quickly, or whether it involves more detailed planning time.

Your dreams for a destination wedding are unique and I have learned not to assume that every client wants or needs exactly the same services.

So, here's what I suggest: If you're thinking of a destination wedding, honeymoon or other romantic event in the Caribbean, I recommend that we spend a few minutes discussing what you envision. Then if I can help, I’ll provide you the pricing options you need. And if I can’t help, I’ll refer you to some other great resources that handle things I don’t. Does that sound fair?

Do you only plan destination weddings in the Caribbean?

I know and love the Caribbean and that's where I focus 90% of my attention. However, if you're planning a destination wedding (or honeymoon, vow renewal ceremony or other type of romance travel) outside of the Caribbean, I am happy to discuss your plans with you.

I'm currently based in the metro Washington DC area and as a professional wedding planner would love to help you with your local wedding (perhaps with a destination vibe!).

Please get in touch, so that I can learn more. At the very least, if I can’t help, I’ll refer you to one of my travel associates who's an expert in the region where you want to go.

Will you travel to the Caribbean for our destination wedding?

Yes, absolutely!

We don't want a hotel or resort wedding; can you help us to plan our wedding at a private vill or off-site location?

If you're looking to create your own unique wedding experience the alluring beauty of the Caribbean means that you can get married just about anywhere. For a wedding day that is unique and unforgettable, I work with the some of the most talented vendors in the region and have pinpointed several locations you might not ever discover on your own, so, please get in touch!

This sounds like what we need, what do we need to do next?

Brilliant! The next step is to schedule a time for us to chat. This is a complimentary 'Meet n Greet' session during which you get to tell me what you have in mind for your destination wedding or celebration in the Caribbean. We'll talk over the phone or via Skype and, remember, the session is free.
